Day 19: Planes, trains and automobiles
It’s the last day in your country and it’s the final chance to head out and see places or people that you have yet to visit. It’s also your last day to sample the local food and enjoy the atmosphere. You decide that you will head out of the city and explore some of the smaller, neighbouring towns. In order to leave the city, you will need to find a vehicle. It could be a bus, a train, a taxi, a bicycle, a scooter...
Activity 1
Let’s imagine that the neighbouring town was about 30 kilometres away. There are a number of beautiful villages and interesting things to see along the way. You have four options for this trip. You can take a:
- Train – 25 minute ride; No stops along the way; $12 for the trip (return)
- Bus – 45 minute ride; Two stops along the way to look at interesting villages; $8 for the trip (return)
- Scooter – 1 hour ride; Unlimited number of stops; $5 for the trip (return)
- Bicycle – 2 hour ride; Unlimited number of stops but there are some hills along the way; $1 (return)
On your blog, tell us which of these four options you would choose and why!
I would most likely choose option 3 (Scooter), It’s because I have unlimited number of stops which means, more interesting buildings/places to visit and learn about. I love seeing/learning about new places and I reckon the Scooter would be good!
Activity 2
These days there are, literally, dozens of different kinds of vehicles that we can use. Some of them are quite familiar (eg. car, truck, bus) but some are very unique and different. Watch this Youtube clip of the most Amazing vehicles ever made.
When you have finished tell us which of the vehicles you liked the most. On your blog tell us the name of the vehicle and the reasons why you liked it so much. There are a number of pretty interesting options!
#1 Option 3 ~ One Wheel Electric Skate. I have chosen this specific type of Vehicle because when using this to, maybe, work, It’s small/compact and can help you with you balance.
#2 Option 5 ~ Half-Bike. It’s because, I can do exercise during my time to work and still travel, which seems quite cool!
#3 Option 7 ~ Suitcase Scooter. In the future I am sure to absolutely love working but maybe not carrying anything. Which the Suitcase Scooter can help with that, carrying my everything I need and give me an exciting ride to work!
Bonus Activity
The Canadian government has decided to build the longest walking trail in the world. It is called the ‘Great Trail’ and it covers 15 000 miles. Wow! For this activity, we are drawing inspiration from this walking trail and thinking about our own footprints.
Your task is to use DrawIsland tool to create your own digital footprint. The footprint must include your name and the name of the country that you are visiting. Otherwise, you can decorate it in any way that you want. It’s totally up to you! Once you have drawn your footprint, save it, and then upload it to your blog. Here is an example of my footprint:

And I'm glad that you're choosing vehicles that allow you to get to work while enjoying fresh air! Better than being in a car or bus, I would think!!

Yes, a scooter is a very good choice. I definitely enjoyed renting scooters in Asia and running around on them, seeing all the sights - especially near the ocean and on islands.
It is funny we have the same first choice of one wheeled scooter. I really think it's cool, but they are very expensive at nearly $1000.

The scooter is a great choice! As Mark has previously mentioned they are easy to rent and very useful for going sightseeing in a many parts of Asia, including Japan. The traffic in some of the larger cities can be quite dense and the drivers can be quite erratic so you may wish to hire a driver for your scooter as well. They would know the roads better than you would and be able to get you safely from one area to the next!
If you didn't want to share a scooter, you could always use a bicycle. When I lived in Japan I used to bike everywhere! My bike was a simple, silver pushbike with a large basket on the front. I would ride my bike to work and then to the grocery store afterwards. I could put my groceries in the little basket on the front and carry them home. It was so convenient!
Here in Auckland I've generally stayed away from biking as the roads aren't very wide and it can be unsafe to travel far distances on a push bike. It would probably be okay to go biking within my own neighbourhood, though, I bet.
Do you ever go biking around your neighbourhood Aaliyahna? If so, where do you go?
Aronui has been asking me to get a bike for the longest time. He has one and he wants me to go cycling with him. Perhaps I should consider it...

Hey Aliyahna,
It's me Von again.. I just did a bit of search about the "acid rain" and what causes the acidic rain is that the acidic gas (which is a general type of gas) reveals into the air which then the wind carries the gases into the clouds then vanishes out into rainwater and then makes acidic rain. I did know a thing about acidic rain until I was interested to found out more and Hopefully there will be no acidic rain raining in NZ.
