Nelson Mandela

On July 18 1918, a beautiful baby boy was born in the Eastern Coast of Africa in Mvezo. His name was Nelson Mandela. When Nelson was nine, his father tragically died and during that time Nelson was raised by royalty.  He was the first member in his family to attend school.

Later on in life, he became an Activist with the African National Congress. Knowing that he had the power of the young ones, he had made a African National Congress Youth League. In 1952 Nelson Mandela had lead the Defiance Campaign and in the 1955 Congress of the people. Soon after that a shocking news came. Nelson Mandela was  charged for high treason against the Government. He was charged with 155 other activists. Soon they were acquitted.

In 1962, he was arrested since he had been on the run for 17 months. He went to Robben Island in Africa, which was the jail. 27 years later, Nelson was released from the jail.

Afterwards, Nelson Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for ending Apartheid. Nelson Mandela  then became the  president of South Africa on May 10th 1994, but in 1999 Nelson had stood down from being the president of South Africa.  

Some years later, on December 5th, 2013, Nelson Mandela  sadly passed away after a long illness. Nelson Mandela  was dedicated to ending global poverty and helping to end wars and conflicts throughout Africa. He was also known as Madiba, which meant the Father of the Nation.

Title - The Hunger Games

Author - Suzanne Collins

I enjoyed this book & I am going to be sharing a little bit about this book. Enjoy :)

The story is about a place in North America called Panem. Neighboring Panem is 13 districts. The Capitol - the ones who own the 13 districts force the people of each district to send one female and one male 12-18 year old as a tribute to fight to the death in the Hunger Games. This happens every year, but District 13 was blown to bits because they were the face of the rebellion against the capitol before the Hunger Games was well-established. A young lady named Katniss Everdeen volunteered for her sister Primrose Everdeen when her name was called for her to go to the Hunger Games along with a young man named Peeta Mellark. What Katniss doesn’t know was that Peeta likes her, and he declares his love for her. Unfortunately, they were on death’s doorstep more than once during the games. When they win the games, the President of the Capitol, President Snow thinks that a rebellion may be starting.

On the Trail of a Taniwha. Review.  By Maara, Lindakiki and Aaliyahna

This story is about when students from St Joseph’s go on a Trip to learn about Taniwha. Students are really excited to be seeing the Taniwha. A Taniwha is a drawing that had lasted now for a century. The Taniwha is drawn by an artist but, these drawing’s show that it’s to preserve their local ovf maori art. This story was about drawing’s that nobody knows who had drawn it. The Taniwha were drawn in a cave they painted it using maori paint. They say that some of the drawings actually are “ true ” but some say “ it’s not true “.
