Complete Homework : Term 3 Week 1

Term 3 - 2016 Home Learning Tasks

Week 1
Task 1 - Read a chapter book and write a summary of the chapter you have read.

Title:  The Hunger Games

Author: Suzanne Collins

Chapter Number:

Summary

I enjoyed this book & I am going to be sharing a little bit about this book. Enjoy :)

The story is about a place in North America called Panem. Neighboring Panem is 13 districts. The Capitol - the ones who own the 13 districts force the people of each district to send one female and one male 12-18 year old as a tribute to fight to the death in the Hunger Games. This happens every year, but District 13 was blown to bits because they were the face of the rebellion against the capitol before the Hunger Games was well-established. A young lady named Katniss Everdeen volunteered for her sister Primrose Everdeen when her name was called for her to go to the Hunger Games along with a young man named Peeta Mellark. What Katniss doesn’t know was that Peeta likes her, and he declares his love for her. Unfortunately, they were on death’s doorstep more than once during the games. When they win the games, the President of the Capitol, President Snow thinks that a rebellion may be starting.

Task 2 - Write your own poem about the Olympic Games. It should have at least 4 verses with 4 lines in each verse.

The Olympic Games
Countries with different names
Versing to reach their full potential
So be very gentle

Taking our time with fear
To make sure it’s all clear
Praying we win it
Just for a little bit

Having all those skills
With types of thrills
Finally we are first
Not on our worst

Making sure we’re done
Waiting for one
Winning that gold
Until we’re old

Task 3 - Solve this word problem

James decided to paint his bedroom. His bedroom walls are 5 metres long and 3 metres high.
  1. If 6 litres of paint can cover 10 square metres of the wall, how much paint should James buy to paint all the walls of his bedroom.
  2. If paint costs $12.00 per litre, how much will James pay for the paint.

Solution : I now know that one wall has the dimension of 5m x 3m or 15m2, if 6 litres of paint can cover 10m2, 1 litre can cover 10/6 L  or 3/5m2 .
For 1 wall James would use 9 Litres of paint, and I have imagined this would be like a square room. A square room has 4 walls, so that would mean I have to multiply my first answer (9 L) by 4. 9 x 4 = 36, 36 litres of paint had to be used for James to be able to paint his full bedroom.

1 Litre of paint costs : $12.00 ; there is 36 Litres of paint so that means 12 x 36 = ?

12 x 30 = 360 ; 12 x 6 = 72 ; 360 + 72 = $432.

Learning about Fairplay

WALHT : Play fairly with good conduct on the playfield.

How does Fairplay work?

Fairplay is about
* Following the Rules of the Game
* Respecting others on the playfield
* Working together as a team ; sharing & taking turns
* Communicating and solving problems in a peaceful way
* Making sure everyone is included in the game activities
* Being honest in all ways that you can
* Playing your hardest with your own ability

I feel this outstanding rugby league player Shaun Johnson has the qualities of a Fair Player and he conducts himself very well on the playfields.

Easter Homework

My summary of this short film :

Waldo (the dog), called for Bengi to play, but he was busy, he had to go to the bus stop for school. Marty said “Hey Benji you ready? it's time for the bus”, “be right there Marty” replied Benji. Waldo, Bengi and Marty went to the bus and waited as they then saw some of there friends.

In the middle of class Benji had been picked to make a poster about Easter, but Benji doubted himself, as he could be not good enough but his class encouraged him to do it so he did. As soon as he got home he started on the poster as soon as possible, then Waldo came along and he wanted to play but Benji couldn’t because he was too busy.

When the next 3 days came, Waldo was trying to play with Benji while they were waiting at the bus stop, but then Benji said “ Don't Waldo, leave me alone”, so Waldo moved a step back, sadly.

Later on in the story, Waldo decided to run away from home, which he did. When Benji came home he looked for Waldo, as he noticed Waldo had gone missing. Benji prayed to Jesus wishing that the next day Waldo would come back. During the missing days of Waldo, Benji had a talk with his mother and father, Waldo was in trouble too. Waldo had gotten in a multiple of problems but they were solved.

At the end of the story, Benji went to his church, but Waldo wasn’t with them until, Benji heard a lot of barking, and Waldo ran to Benji, Waldo was very dirty and so was Benji after hugging Waldo.

They went to Sunday Church Class which Benji had shown the poster he had made for Easter.

Winter Learning Journey Day 7

Day 7 - Activities 1 - 3

Approximately one month after the Olympic Games finish, there is a second Olympic competition. This competition is specifically for athletes who have physical disabilities. It is called the Paralympics. The first official Paralympic Games were held in Rome, Italy in 1960.

To view the promotional video for the Paralympic Games, check out this link!

Activity 1: At the first ever Paralympic Games in Rome, the athletes competed in eight sports. Cycling was one of them. For the cycling event, two people compete together as a team – one of the people has a disability and the other does not. Here is a picture of a para-cycling team from New Zealand:
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Paraclycing team (NZ).jpg

At the moment the most famous para-cycling team in New Zealand is comprised of two female athletes – Emma Foy and Laura Thompson. Emma is blind but Laura is not. Together they work as an amazing team. Imagine that you were asked to compete in a tandem cycling event and you had to choose one person to compete with. Who would it be? On your blog, tell us who you would compete with and why. If it was me, I would choose my son, Aronui because he’s pretty fast and very funny. He would make me laugh as we biked along and would be very supportive and encouraging! I know that I could trust him to be a good teammate. Who would you choose?

For this activity I would choose my sister, she is very enthusiastic and has lots of courage and that could really help with cycling. My sister is really fun and I really like the way that she would push me to really reach my goals.

Activity 2: It is very expensive for each of the Paralympic athletes to fly from New Zealand to Rio de Janeiro to compete.  Most athletes have to fundraise in order to make the money that they need to go on the big trip. Recently, Harvey Norman announced that they will be helping to raise funds for the New Zealand Paralympic team. What could you do to help raise funds to support our amazing Paralympic athletes? On your blog, list 2 different ways in which you, your family or friends could raise money to support the athletes.
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Paralympic logo Nz.jpg

I would set fundraisers from Car-Washes, Sausage Sizzles, Night Events & much more. When we fundraise lots of money we could donate it to help for the Paralympic Athletes.

My next one is similar to the first one, basically selling anything for money or having events or even bake sales. I would be very nice to do this.

Bonus: This year two new sports are being added to the Paralympic Games. They are canoeing and triathlon. In the triathlon the athletes must swim 750 metres, cycle for 20 kilometres, and then run for 5 kilometres. Paralympic athletes may also compete in other sports including archery, boccia, football, judo, powerlifting, rowing, sailing, swimming, sitting volleyball, track cycling, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby, and wheelchair tennis. To learn more about all of the Paralympic sports, please visit the 2016 Paralympic Games website.

Imagine that you are on the Paralympic Committee and you have been asked to create one new sport to add to the competition for this year. Use your awesome imagination to design a brand new Paralympic sport. Please remember that some of the athletes will not be able to walk or run and others may be blind or deaf. On your blog, please write:

  1. The name of your sport,
  2. A brief description of how you play the sport, and
  3. Three rules for the sport

Double Canoe Rowing Speed

Double Canoe Rowing is basically having a partner & your partner can have a disability or not. Playing this type of sport is just rowing but making sure that if your partner is blind, they would be at the back which is the speed, and the unblind person will be in front navigating..

Rule #1 - All athletes can not stop unless they really need a good break
Rule #2 - Make sure that all athletes are tightly strapped while Speed.
Rule # 3 - Make sure that all athletes are having fun.
