Homework Maths Problem

James decided to paint his bedroom. His bedroom walls are 5 metres long and 3 metres high.
  1. If 6 litres of paint can cover 10 square metres of the wall, how much paint should James buy to paint all the walls of his bedroom.
  2. If paint costs $12.00 per litre, how much will James pay for the paint.

Solution : I now know that one wall have the dimension of 5m x 3m or 15m2, if 6 litres of paint can cover 10m2, 1 litre can cover 10/6 L  or 3/5m2 .
For 1 wall James would use 9 Litres of paint, and I have imagined this would be like a square room. A square room has 4 walls, so that would mean I have to multiply my first answer (9 L) by 4. 9 x 4 = 36, 36 litres of paint had to be used for James to be able to paint his full bedroom.

1 Litre of paint costs : $12.00 ; there is 36 Litres of paint so that means 12 x 36 = ?

12 x 30 = 360 ; 12 x 6 = 72 ; 360 + 72 = 432.
