For maths, we have maths revision! Here are my explanations of these problems, please correct me if I am wrong!
Tom had 36 boxes of oranges. Each box has 7 oranges in it. How many oranges does he have altogether.
36 x 7 =
30 x 7 = 210 + 6 x 7 = 42 = (210 + 42 = 252)
Susan makes 1 litre of juice with ⅕ of a Raro sachet. She needed to make 17 litres of juice. How many sachets does she need?
⅕ = 1L. 1 = 5L. 3=15L because 3 whole pkts = 15L(⅕ = 1L). 3 ⅖ sachets is needed.
Daniel walked 3.7 kilometres on Sunday and another 2.9 kilometres on Monday. How many kilometres did he walk?
3.7 + 2.9 = 6.6. 3 + 2 = 5, .7 + .9 = 1.6. 5 + 1.6 = 6.6
Joseph had 672 songs on his ipod then deleted some. He now has 388 songs left. How many songs did he delete?
672 - 388 = 284
600 - 300 = 300
72 - 88 (take 100 from the 300 to make 172 - 88) =84
200 + 84 = 284
Catarina took $58 dollars from her bank account. She now has $387. How much did she have in the beginning?
58 + 287 = 345
290 + 50 = 340 (58 - 3 because of the rounding 3)
340 + 5 = 345
Sina threw 40 shots in a basketball game. She got 20% of the shots in . How many did she get in the hoop?

8/40 = 2/10 = 20%/100. Which makes the answer 8!
There were 25 students in the Glenbrae school bus. That is only ¼ of the school. How many students are in the school?
25 x 4 = 100
Containers arrived at the wharf with 1500 kilograms of sugar. Pak n Save bought ⅕ of the sugar. How much did Pak n Save buy?
300g
⅕ of 1500 kg = 300g
300g x 5 = 1500 kg
I ironed 5 shirts in 30 minutes. How long will it take me to iron 15 shirts?
5 shirts = 30mins
15 shirts = 90 (because 5 x 3 = 15 & 30 x 90)
On a hot day the temperature outside is 17 degrees. On a cold day it drops by 5 degrees. What is the temperature on a cold day?
12 degrees
17 - 5 = 12
How many matchsticks do you need for the fifth picture?
What is the pattern?

6 = 1, 9 = 2, 12 = 3, 15 = 4, 18 = 5 (in threes)
If 120 X 2 is 240. How can you work out 120 X 4?
240 x 2 = 480
Double it because 2 and 4 have a shared relation of double or two.
Simon had 5 pizzas. He shared them with 2 other friends. How much does each of them get?
They each have 1 ⅔ of pizza. 5 pizza’s, one goes to each friend and him and the other two can be split into thirds.
A painter uses 3/7 of a tub of paint on one wall. How many does he need for 18 walls?
3/7 = 1 wall
3/7 x 18 = 54/7 = 7 5/7 tubs of paint for 18 walls.
A race car uses 23 litres in one lap. How many litres does it need for 3.5 laps?

23 x 3 = 69
½ of 23L = 11.5
69 + 11.5 = 80.5L
