My teacher asked me to do a current event and I did this.

Prof McPherson taught and attended research at the University of Arizona for 20 years before leaving the university in 2009.

He will be speaking about climate change in guest lectures in New Zealand from October 22 to November 1.

Here is the link.

About half my day.

Today is a beautiful day, I am with my family just doing a board game and its called " The Game of Life" and it is a very nice game.

We've played it a few times, I've won once and my sister won twice.

I think its called " The game of Life" because at the start it has a choice of career and college career, you have to choose one and then you have to pick up two cards  ( there is four different kinds of cards like, House, Action, Career and College career cards) from the college or career cards and choose one of the cards and it will have your celery on it and have to spin the wheel and then you would have a number from one to ten, you move to what space its on ( the wheel ) you also have a peg in your car and also a token.

There is a lot of stops on the board like graduation and get married, babys, I you want to the to night school and a few others. It is a very nice game  to play.

Settings about School

This is a school setting post. Our class had to do this for our writing.

At school you can see students, teachers, and classrooms and also playgrounds. There is a lot of cars when you come out of the gate. Some classrooms has papers on the doors saying greetings. The students has uniform on and there is some schools that wear any kind of uniforms.

You can hear laughing, crying and you can hear some people angry. Some people can hear the cars at the end of the day.  Your can hear a lot of people that are shouting, because some people getting in trouble. You also hear the students playing happily in the playground.

Some people when the go to school they feel scared when they are new. Some people that are bullies, bully new people. The person that is new feels scared and sad. The bullies, bully the new people for fun, to get their attention and also to get more friends.

There is a lot of people there  like the parents of the students. There is teachers, teacher aides and there is office people, there is a nurse person that helps a person that has fallen down or hurt. The nurse person does not wear any nurse clothes though.

There is a lot of things happening like people get angry because of some one. In class (sometimes) there is fights in class and also there is some bad behaviour in the class. There is also people that caring for others too.

Current Events

I did this for my reading, It was to go and look on news sites and look for current events.

Santa Makes The Naughty List
A man is being hunted by police after he robbed an Australian post office while dressed as Santa Claus.
The white bearded man entered the store in a suburb of Melbourne on Saturday and demanded money from a member of staff.
The woman handed over cash which the man put into a red Santa sack.
Footage from in-store cameras shows the man jumped up on to the counter to scoop up more cash himself.
The offender then got away in a cream coloured Jeep which had false number plates on it.
No weapon was seen during the incident and no one was injured.
I don’t think this Santa will make the nice list this year!

Action Story

Monday 17 November

My Action Story.

A few days ago, there is a  group of boys, they loved to fight a lot. They fought  because they always wanted to become  superheroes  so they would get trained, but not for a long time, they would train for 10 minutes.  Every day, they would fight just to redeem their confidence of becoming what they truly are. Their names were Alex , James, Jackson and also Michael.

One day Alex saw someone who just sped to help a person who nearly got shot. Alex was wondering where Michael was at that time. Once all of the boys were sitting down doing their daily  job. They worked in a security house ( It was very big and it was very quiet in the room), just to make sure that there was nothing going on in wrong places.  They let Michael have a lunch break. As he was having a lunch break Michael sped in front of the security cameras and never noticed his team mates was watching him.

They told Michael what they saw on the security cameras. Michael pleaded to his friends to destroy the tape or it will destroy his life. Alex , Jackson and James thought about what it will feel like if they were the ones in pressure. They all decided to keep the secret but on one condition, he had to give them all powers so they can help save the people in danger just like Michael.
He said “You have to train so you're ready to become like me and you need to get ready for anything”.

One day they were training and they saw that there was a huge army of zombies that were hunting people down and taking them as a hostage, they were taking them in a huge house. When the group saw that on the cameras, they stopped what they were doing and then got ready to go. When Michael saw the cameras to, he said to them that they are not ready to go the save the hostages.

They said “ But Michael we can help you”, then Michael said “ Ok you can help me but you have to be very careful ”.

While Michael was talking the group all turned to become the best…. ( I mean by they got powers).

They have all the powers. They they went to the car and then they remembered that they have powers, they said we should fly, they flew and then they were looking for the zombies and the people that were missing. They could not find it, but then they saw a few zombies that were guarding a big huge house. They flew down and then they saw that there was more and more zombies coming out. When they flew down they used their powers to move the zombies and try to get the hostages out, but they could not find any hostages.

Michael used his new power that he unlocked. It was that he could lift anyone up. He lifted up all the zombies while he did it there was still some down in the house. Then the whole group tried it and they all came up except one. Then another person like Michael named Amy came to help she has know how to lift the master of the zombies. She said you would need, five people that has powers, then they all lifted up all the zombies. After that they got all of the people that were taken by the zombies.

While they got rid of all the zombies, (which they put them under ground). Then there was some people that saw what they were doing so the people that were below the team was saying that they are heros and they clapped. The people didn’t think anything bad of them even though they are mutants.

The next day, after all the zombie things were cleaned, the people who were clapping the day before called the government so they could get rewards for what they did. They all knew the found what they truly are. The people who got taken thanked the superheros.
Alex, Michael,Amy,James and Jackson saved the day.!
The End.
Watch out for my writing number two!. (Part 2).

Tsunami Facts

Here are some TSUNAMI facts that you can lean

  1. One of the largest earthquakes in history happened over 100 miles off the coast of Chile on May 22 1960. Just 15 minutes after the earthquake happened 80-foot waves struck the coast. Fifteen hours later tsunami waves struck Hawaii. Finally  22 hours after the earthquake the tsunami struck Japan—10,000 miles from where the earthquake took place.
  2. While waves generated by wind may travel anywhere from around 2 to 60 miles per hours. Tsunami waves can travel at speeds of 600 miles per hour.
  3. The Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004 killed more than 216,000 people, possibly as many as 283,000. Victims included not only local people but also about 9,000 visitor from Australia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the U.S. who were spending their Christmas vacations at beach resorts in Southeast Asia.
  4. A mega-tsunami is a tsunami with extremely high waves and is usually caused by a landslide. A mega tsunami happened at Lituya Bay in  Alaska in the year 1958.
  5. The tallest tsunami ever recorded at 1,700 feet (534 m) high. Miraculously, only two people died.
  6. When an enormous earthquake hit Lisbon in 1755 the city’s terrified citizens rushed to the shore for safety. They were amazed to see seawater rushing away from the shore. Minutes after, a tsunami arrived. Ninety thousand residents were killed.
  7. People often die after the first tsunami wave because they return to their homes too soon or go to the beach to help stranded people or animals.
  8. If caught by a tsunami wave, it is better not to swim, but rather to grab a floating object and allow the current to carry you.
  9. Up to half an hour before a tsunami strikes, the ocean can suddenly appear to drain away. The withdraw of the water is called the drawback and is the trough of the tsunami reaching the shore.
  10. The state at greatest risk for a tsunami is Hawaii. Hawaii experiences about one tsunami a year and a damaging tsunami every seven years. California, Oregon, and Washington have a damaging tsunami about every 18 years.

My Maui Story (Remake)

My Maui Story

One evening after eating a very nice  meal Maui lay beside his fire staring into the flames. He watched the flames  and danced and thought to himself I wonder where fire comes from.

Maui, being the mysterious person that he was. He decided that he needed to find out. In the middle of the night  while everyone was sleeping Maui went to each village  and put out all the fires until not a single fire burned in each village. He then went back to his home and the rested.

The next morning Maui heard somethings.
How can we cook our breakfast, there's no fire!. Called a worried mother.
How will we keep warm at night?  Cried another worried mother.
We can't possibly live without fire! The villagers said to one another.
The people of the village were very frightened. They asked Taranga, who was their rangatira  to help solve the problem.

Someone will have to go and see the great goddess Mahuika, and ask her for fire, said Taranga.
None of the villagers were eager to meet Mahuika, they had all heard of the scorching mountain where she lived. So Maui offered to set out in search of Mahuika, secretly glad that his plan had worked.

Be very careful, said Taranga.  Although you are a child of Mahuika she will not talk  kindly to you if you try and trick her.
I'll find the great  Mahuika and bring fire back to the world, Maui assured his mother.

Maui walked to the scorching mountain to the end of the earth following the instructions from his mother and found a huge mountain glowing red hot with heat.

At the base of the mountain Maui saw a cave entrance. Before he entered, Maui said  a special karakia to himself as protection from what lay beyond.

But nothing could prepare Maui for what he saw when he entered the sacred mountain of Mahuika.
Mahuika, the goddess, rose up before him, fire burning from every pore of her body, her hair a mass of flames, her arms stretched out and with only black holes where her eyes once were. She sniffed the air. She said who is this person that dares to enter my cave?

Maui gathered the courage to speak, It is me Maui the son of Taranga.
Huh,  yelled Mahuika. Maui, the son of Taranga?
Yes the last born, Maui tikitiki.

Well then, Māui tikitiki  welcome, welcome to the essence of the flame, welcome my grandchild.

Mahuika stepped closer to Maui, taking a deep sniff of his scent. Maui stood completely still  even though the flames from Mahuikas  skin. They were unbearably hot.
So Maui why do you come, Maui tikitiki ? Mahuika finally asked.
Maui said, The fires of the world have been out, I have come to ask you for fire. Mahuika listened carefully to Maui, and then she laughed. She pulled a fingernail from one of her burning fingers and gave it to him.
Take this fire as a gift to your people. Honour this fire as you honour me.
So Maui left the house of Mahuika taking with him the fingernail of fire.

As Maui walked along the side of the road he thought to himself, what if Mahuika had no fire left, then where would she get her fire from?
Maui couldn't contain his curiosity. He quickly threw the fingernail into a stream and headed back to Mahuika's cave.
I tripped and fell  said Māui. Could I please have another?

Mahuika was in a good mood.
She hadn't spoken to someone in quite some time and she liked Maui. She gladly gave Maui another  fingernail.

But Maui soon extinguished this fingernail as well and returned to Mahuika with another excuse.
A fish splashed my flame as I was crossing the river,Maui said.
Mahuika provided another of her fingernail  not thinking that she was being tricked.

This continued for most of the day until Mahuika had used all her fingernail and had even given up her toenail.  When Maui returned to ask for another, Mahuika was furious. She knew Maui had been tricking her and threw the burning toenail to the ground.
Instantly Maui was surrounded by fire in the cave.
Maui changed himself into a fast bird and escaped to the sky, but the flames burned so high that they signed the underside of the birds wings.

Maui dived towards a river, hoping to avoid the flames in the coolness of the water  but the all the toenails and fingernails that he had put into the river made the river heat up  and the water was boiling.

Maui was desperate. He called on his ancestor  for help.
Then, a mass of clouds gathered and a torrent of rain fell to put out the many fires. Mahuika's mountain of fire no longer burned hot.

Mahuika had lost much of her power, but still she was not giving up. She took her very last toenail and threw it at Maui in lots of anger.  The toenail of fire missed Maui and flew into the trees, planting itself in a tree. The trees cherished and held onto the fire of Mahuika, considering it a great gift.

When Maui returned to his village he didn't bring back fire as the villagers had expected. Instead he brought back dry wood from trees.  The villagers were very happy that they have some dry wood to make the village warm and also they had enough dry wood for fires so they can cook. The villagers were very happy to be able to cook their food once more and to have the warmth of their fires at night to comfort them.

Maui  was satisfied his curiosity in finding the origin of fire although he very nearly paid the ultimate price in doing that.

The villages and also Maui lived happily ever after.

WALT - find fractions within a whole

Task 1 - What fractions do you need to add to make one whole.
Eg ½ + ½ = 1

⅔ + ⅓ __ = 1
5/7 + _ 2/7 _ = 1
¾ + _1/4  _ = 1
3/9 + _6/9 _ = 1
5/7 + _2/7 _ = 1

My Current Events

For reading we had to do some Current events and this is my first one.

There was a Powhiri at our school and we had to write about it.

Hello! I’m Aaliyahna and I’m going to tell you about the special event that happened this morning at our school, Glenbrae Primary in Glen Innes.

When I first got to school, there were sausage sizzles and also pulpy and fruit drinks and I ate 2 sausages and 2 drinks for free , and that was my breakfast. Then we  went to room 7 to put  our bags away and have some free time for a little bit. Then we went to the hall again  and all the sausage sizzle mess was gone.

Next we sat down in the hall and then we got ready.  When we sat down we heard the haka that Room 10 and 9 did. Then after room 10 and 9 finished the haka,  Nick Smith and the Mayor of Auckland, Len Brown came inside to see us.

We standed up and we sang a song and it was E Tasi Ae E Lasi  when we finished singing E Tasi Ae E Lasi  Len Brown talked about when and where he grew up and he grew up in the south. When he finished his speech he sang a song and it was Te Aroha and while he was singing it we decided to sing with him.

When Len Brown finished, Dr Nick Smith started to talk about the early childhood Education center. When he finished his speech  we sang E Toru nga mea. When we finished singing that song a Maori person that was sitting next to Dr Nick Smith did a speech about the early childhood education centre.

When we finished we lined up to go near the tree that they were going to cut down and when we formed a semicircle they got a shuffle and took it and dug the ground. They put some of the soil into a red bucket.

When the bell rang we went to class and had lollies and blew up balloons.

The end!!.
