Day #1: 100% Pure New Zealand : Bonus Activity

Bonus Activity: Now it’s time to start your tour! Curious Kiwi decides to start by taking you on a short tour through downtown Auckland. You stop at the Sky Tower, the tallest building in all of New Zealand. When you look up, you see a huge New Zealand flag on the top of the tower. This flag was created back in 1902. That makes the New Zealand flag 115 years old!

Last year, the Prime Minister of New Zealand suggested that we should replace the flag with a new, updated design. He invited everyone in New Zealand to come up with their own flag design and submit it.

For this activity, it is your turn to design a new flag. Use any drawing programme that you wish.  Once you have finished, post a copy of your design on your blog. Describe the flag, in words, below the picture. Be sure to tell us what is on the flag and what inspired your design.

Kia ora Aaliyahna, do the number of stars symbolise something about New Zealand. How many flags has New Zealand had in the past? I do like your design and the Kiwi with Maori patterns. Do not forget your reading log. Ka kite for now.

I should most likely add more details to the flag, but with the flag, the stars represent what year our current flag was made, for instance 1902 and I did 1 star, then 9 stars etc. In the past, New Zealand has had 3 flags. Here's a link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_New_Zealand_flags
it has a lot of information about the flags, as well as, many other flags, that arent New Zealand Flags.
Ka Kite, Cheers!

Hi Aaliyahna
I was just wondering, what is your reason for keeping the union jack? New Zealand is no longer part of the common wealth - is it because the union jack is part of our precious history? Well done.
Daniel
